At the Labour Court

The matter was postponed until Thursday, 25 June 2009. MWASA and CWU agreed to the postponement and also gave an undertaking they will not embark on a strike in the meantime! The issuing of our notice for a strike is solely dependant on their CCMA certificate as our members will be able to join in a secondary strike only.

I think we have missed the boat by agreeing to a postponement and to not strike.

28 June is the last day of the Confederations Cup.

Eish!

I believe we should see this as an opportunity to gather more support, and plan the strike properly.

One of the demands should be that we all gather at DOC together to hand over a petition / memo to the Minister of Communications.

The confed cup is actually neither here not there - it is but two hours of TV every second week...

Let us convince CWU an MWASA to start the strike on Friday, but to give notice tomorrow... so we can get our own process started...

This is exactly what is going to happen with the annual increases. Unfortunately the SABC staff does not have the backbone to stand up against management and to walk their talk. They will eventually settle for the 8,5% and management will again win the fight. But the staff will still moan and groan - even though they had a chance to fight and win. We are going to miss that boat as well ...
